We have all had the experience of that little thing that happened that simply seemed as though it was just for us, just for that one moment.
Sometimes it is that a certain grocery item is on sale, just when you need it, but have little money.
Sometimes it is a sunset, or sunrise.
Sometimes it is a rainbow … a double rainbow.
Sometimes it is encouraging words from someone.
Sometimes it is your child getting on that sports team, in that drama production, in that university.
Sometimes it is finding twenty dollars in your coat pocket.
Sometimes it is a parking spot at Costco.
Whatever it is, I bet is brings a big smile across your face. I bet you utter :
“wow!”
“yes!”
“thank-you”
It is an unexpected blessing, a joy, a gift.
Recently, while reading a post by Chloe Arnold, at her blog home, Beyond Blessed, I was introduced to the concept of God winks. Chloe describes a ‘God Wink’ as “simply one of the many extraordinary little “coincidences” in life ordained by God.” She references a book, written by Squire Rushnell, called “When GOD Winks at You” (amazon). Although I have not yet read it, it is now in my queue.
Since my introduction to the idea of a God wink, I have been … well, looking for them. There is something addictive about searching for a God winks, it is almost like being on a treasure hunt. Whenever one happens, I start anticipating the next, and they appear!
I suppose one could say that I am inventing them, from my own need to receive them. I prefer to look at them differently. I prefer to view my anticipation
as expectancy.
God has promised his spirit …
“If you love me, keep my commands.
And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever
—the Spirit of truth.
The world cannot accept him,
because it neither sees him nor knows him.
But you know him,
for he lives with you and will be in you.”
John 14:15-17
No, it didn’t say anything about a wink,
but it did say,
“But you know him,
for he lives with you and will be in you”
If his spirit dwells in us, his spirit knows us intimately, knows us from the inside out. His spirit knows what we need, and just when we need it.
So, I challenge you, spend one day, just one day, looking, with expectancy, for a wink from God. And when it happens, return the wink to him in praise and joy. It could alter your day.
