Sometimes it seems that God chases, hunts down, stalks me with a message.

It was an odd day that the verse (left) from Psalm 118:24 was constantly popping up in my mind.

“This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it”

An average day, middle of the work week. Driving the same route as I do almost everyday. Still early enough in the morning that the roads and sidewalks are mostly empty of people and vehicles. The late summer sun rays causing shadows mixed with brightness. A full day ahead, but not one with worries or concerns. Just a day, an average day.

“This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it”

Life at home was completely copacetic, peaceful, calm. No plans for the hours following out work days. No plans the evening previous. Just rest, leisure. No huge worries at home, no conflict, no stresses on our minds. Just a day, an average day.

“This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it”

And so the stalking continued … I think it had started a day or two previous.

“This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it”

But, it was there, in my car, driving to work, that it permeated my my consciousness. The thing is, I did not hear it once, nor did I hear it as a whole, nor did I hear it the same each time.

This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it”

Then I got to the word we, except that I swapped it, immediately, without forethought, for I. It became personal, intimate, true. I will rejoice and be glad in this day, made from the hands of God. And I paused in my thoughts. And I considered the words of the Psalmist and adopted them as my mantra for that very day, that very early morning moment. And I owned them as my own.

A regular day, just beginning, with possible joys and sorrows to come. But I would start my day rejoicing simply in the reality that God made it, therefore it was holy and I would worship Him.

“This is the day that the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it”
